Overview
Ten days that grandparents and grandchildren can both do
Multi-generational travel breaks down when the itinerary suits only the middle generation. This one is built around what everybody can do together: short drives, flat and accessible sites, a comfortable micro-van with wide windows, and three nights at Pasikudah, where an outer reef holds the water calm and waist-deep for several hundred metres. That single piece of geography is the reason the tour ends there — toddlers and grandparents can be in the sea at the same time.

Questions
About this tour
Is this suitable for elderly travellers with limited walking?
Largely yes. The pace is deliberately relaxed and sites like the Peradeniya gardens and Pasikudah beach are flat and accessible. Dambulla involves a climb to the cave entrance, which can be skipped without affecting the rest of the day.
What vehicle is used for a multi-generational group?
A spacious, fully air-conditioned luxury micro-van or mini-coach with wide windows and comfortable seating, sized to the group.
Are interconnecting family rooms available?
Yes. We prioritise interconnecting or adjacent rooms, though this depends on confirming the booking early.
Is Pasikudah safe for toddlers and non-swimmers?
Yes, and it is the main reason the tour ends there. An outer reef blocks the swell, leaving a shallow, calm bay ideal for wading.
What if someone gets tired during a city tour?
The vehicle and driver stay with the group throughout, so anyone can go back and rest in air conditioning at any point without disrupting everyone else.
Are cots and high chairs available?
Yes. Our partner hotels provide international-standard baby cots and restaurant high chairs at no extra cost, but tell us at booking so they are reserved.
Can we arrange a private family cooking class?
Yes. It is an interactive session where everyone helps prepare traditional dishes, and it works well across ages.

Overview
Ten days that grandparents and grandchildren can both do
The air changes the moment you cross the threshold of Sri Lanka’s central hills and descend toward the wide, sun-bleached horizons of the North Eastern coast. It transitions from the cool, tea-scented mist of the highlands to a warm, salt-laced breeze that carries the faint, rhythmic percussion of distant ocean rollers. Here, tucked away from the high-velocity tourist corridors, time operates on an entirely different axis. You find yourself standing on the ramparts of Fort Frederick in Trincomalee as the dawn light strikes the ancient Koneswaram Temple. Below, the Indian Ocean is a sheet of liquid sapphire, catching the first amber rays of the sun while the scent of burning incense from early morning rituals mingles with the sharp tang of the sea.
As the journey traces the coastline south toward Pasikudah, the landscape flattens into a serene canvas of coconut groves and crystalline, glass-like waters. Stepping into the bay at Pasikudah feels like entering a massive, turquoise swimming pool sculpted by nature. The water remains waist-deep for hundreds of meters out, cool and perfectly calm against your skin, offering a sanctuary of absolute tranquility.
The peace gives way to a vibrant, kinetic energy as you arrive in Arugam Bay. The atmosphere here is thick with the scent of wood-fired pizzas, tropical wax, and the laid-back, bohemian rhythm of global surf culture. Standing on the point, you watch lines of clean, peeling right-hand breaks march into the bay, catching the golden hour light as surfers glide effortlessly across their faces.
The journey shifts dramatically from coast to jungle as you enter Yala, where the salty marine breeze is replaced by the dry, earthy aroma of the scrub forest. Your senses sharpen in the back of the open-top safari jeep, scanning the thickets until the ultimate prize reveals itself: a Sri Lankan leopard, its rosetted coat gleaming in the late afternoon sun as it drapes lazily across a smooth granite outcrop.
